What is trauma?

What is trauma?

Trauma is the result of a traumatic or distressing event in your life, of which can be big or small (seemingly). Life-threatening accidents, childhood hardship, bullying, sexual assault, physical and psychological abuse, grief and loss, perceived failures, and family violence are all examples of things that may have caused trauma.

When we experience stressful events, our body goes into survival mode – it must decide whether to fight, flee or freeze. Stress hormones flood in, and if not processed and cleared directly afterwards, there is no opportunity for the brain to properly convert the event into a conscious memory. Instead, it will be stored in the unconscious, and your body will not be aware the danger is over, meaning it will remain on constant high alert and will feel unsafe.

Because this is happening on an unconscious level you may not even be aware that it is occurring. However, if your body remains in this state of hyper-arousal and stress, it can change your view of the world, and manifest as debilitating emotional and physical symptoms.

All the below can be signs of unprocessed trauma in the body:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Self-sabotage
  • Aggression
  • Feelings of numbness
  • Sleep issues
  • Chronic pain
  • Fatigue
  • Irritability
  • Panic attacks
  • Gut problems
  • Inability to focus
  • Feelings of hopelessness
  • Avoidance and isolation
  • Hypervigilance
  • Intrusive thoughts
  • Poor judgement
  • Heightened startle reflex
  • Racing heart
  • Obsessions and compulsions
  • Phobias
  • Food and chemical intolerances
  • Negative self image/poor self esteem
  • Excessive guilt and blame

Your trauma is real and valid. Your symptoms are real and valid.

It can be difficult to recognise how events of the past are influencing your current state of being, particularly as our conscious mind does an excellent job at repressing painful memories to protect us from suffering.

But real healing can only take place when these distressing events are cleared once and for all. TRTP™ works by helping your unconscious brain to understand the stress is over so that your body can be brought back to a state of calm and safety.

When you finish your treatments, you will finally be freed from the ongoing impacts the trauma has had on you mentally, emotionally, and physically, and feel that the past no longer has control over you.
